Union Minister Narayan Rane got a setback from the Supreme Court, said – remove illegal construction yourself in 3 months

Union Minister Narayan Rane has got a big setback from the Supreme Court. The court dismissed the Union minister’s plea seeking a stay of the Bombay High Court’s order demolition of the alleged unauthorized construction at ‘Adish Bungalow’. According to the court’s decision, Union Minister Narayan Rane himself will have to demolish the illegal construction in the next two months. Otherwise, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will demolish the building.

RTI activist Santosh Daundkar had complained to the BMC that unauthorized construction took place in Narayan Rane’s bungalow. The BMC has issued a notice of section 351(1) to Adheesh Bungalow in Juhu, saying that the Union Minister has done unauthorized construction. The BMC officials then asked him to prove that the changes made in the bungalow were as per the approved map. Then Rane showed all the documents to the municipality but BMC was not satisfied with his answer and he was again sent a notice.

BMC did the inspection on 21 February
On February 21, BMC visited the bungalow and inspected it. The Municipal Corporation found that there has been a ‘change of use’ on all floors and rooms have been built in garden areas in most places.

In March this year, when the Maha Vikas Aghadi was in power, the BMC issued a notice to KREPL to remove nearly 300 per cent of the illegal constructions on its premises within 15 days. This notice was challenged by KREPL. The court, while making a strong remark, said that the BMC cannot be allowed to take steps inconsistent with the decisions of the Supreme Court and the statutory provisions.
