Uttar Pradesh : Yoga will be mandatory for students in UP schools

Yoga will soon be made compulsory for school students in Uttar Pradesh. This policy is expected to be released soon. The purpose of making yoga compulsory is to promote a strong sports culture, sports infrastructure and sportspersons even in the most remote parts of the state. Additional Chief Secretary (Sports) Navneet Sehgal said, “The policy aims to increase the participation of young children by identifying talent in the age group of 5-14 years. Along with this, the sports ecosystem has to be strengthened with Public Private Partnership, Public Association Partnership and Public Federation Partnership. agreed to be developed. Other courses including sports management, sports journalism, sports law, sports data analytics will be provided to the youth. The High Performance Centers will work to prepare 20 best athletes from each sport for national and state level competitions. Sehgal further said that a District Sports Center (DSC) will be opened in every district to provide training to the promising young talent.

Academy will be built in villages

The DSC will also include a District Sports Coaching Center (DSCC) to provide basic sports and fitness training. Under the new policy, land will be given on lease to sports federations and international level players for setting up the academy. The land of the Gram Sabha earmarked for the ‘Playground’ will be given on lease to the Gramin Academy. 50% of the players in the academy will be from UP. Social media and other channels will be used to spread information about admissions etc. to encourage participation in this programme.

Sports Development Fund to be set up in UP

The state government has also proposed to create Uttar Pradesh Sports Development Fund with an initial corpus of Rs 100 crore. Under this policy, yoga will also be mandatory in the training program of sportspersons and school students. Facility for training and practice of yoga will be made available in the sports stadiums of all district headquarters. UP Sports Development and Promotion Committee will work to promote sports among all sections of the society like women, differently abled etc.
