Haridwar on top in Ganga Town category, but is the dirtiest city of Uttarakhand

Haridwar has topped the list of big cities along the Ganges, despite slipping down in the cleanliness ranking at the national and state level. Haridwar, which was ranked 279th last year in the national level overall ranking, has moved up to 300th this year. But, Haridwar came in the first place by taking 70 points in cities of more than one lakh population along the Ganges.
At the same time, Bijnor is on the top with 80 points among the cities on the banks of Ganga with a population of less than one lakh. Not only this, in terms of cleanliness in eight big cities of the state, Haridwar has moved up from 5th place last year to 8th place.
In the Swachh Survekshan 2022, Ganga Town category cities have been divided into two parts. There are 31 cities with a population of more than one lakh while there are 32 cities with a population of less than one lakh. Urban Development Minister Premchand Agrawal received the first award for Haridwar in Ganga Town category on Saturday.
With this honor came a worrying fact that this year Haridwar’s ranking at the national level was 330th out of a total of 382 cities. It is clear that the score of Haridwar city has dropped in terms of cleanliness. Indore has come first in this category. At the state level, Dehradun has been ranked first among the cities with a population of one million in terms of cleanliness.

Uttarakhand has got six awards for the first time in the cleanliness survey. It is a matter of pride for all of us to be honored by the President. Along with this happiness, of course, we have to find our shortcomings and remove them. Haridwar has got the first number among other Ganga Towns in the country, which is a proud thing.
– Premchand Agrawal, Urban Development and Housing Minister, Government of Uttarakhand
It is a matter of happiness to get the first place in the country, but on the analysis of the overall cleanliness report, it becomes clear that what is the level of cleanliness in Haridwar. There is a need to do special work on cleanliness not only in Haridwar but also in other cities.
