Mohammed Shami will be included in the T20 World Cup squad in place of Jasprit Bumrah! Siraj can get a place in this list

Team India suffered a major setback when fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was officially out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to injury. It will now take him about four to six weeks to recover from this injury. The BCCI issued a statement on Monday saying that Bumrah will not be able to play in the upcoming tournament. Who will now be included in the Indian team in place of Bumrah, BCCI has not confirmed anything about it yet. But according to the report of The Times of India, veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami is set to replace Bumrah in the T20 World Cup squad. Shami, however, has not played any T20 International since last year’s T20 World Cup.

The report also said that Mohammad Siraj will be kept in the list of standby players for the T20 World Cup. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar has done well in the two matches against South Africa, however, he was always a backup for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, so he will remain in the standby list.

A BCCI source said, “The team management is clear about the backup. Chahar has been identified as Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s backup. Bhuvneshwar is still the first choice. Shami was kept as the main bowler as cover for Bumrah. Hence, Shami is sure to join the main team. Siraj is going to tour Australia as a standby with the team.

Bumrah, who made a comeback through the T20 series against Australia, was also selected for the South Africa T20 series, but due to not being fit in the first match, he could not play. He has been suffering from back pain in the past as well. He had to stay out for three months in 2019 for the same reason but this time he may have to stay out for four to six months.

Bumrah played the same five matches in all three formats for India this year while he played 14 matches for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. In the T20 World Cup, India has to play its first match against Pakistan on 23 October.
