Uttarakhand: Bodies of 10 trekkers trapped in avalanche recovered, 18 people still missing, rescue underway

There was a major accident in Uttarkashi of Uttarakhand on Tuesday. 28 trekkers got trapped in the avalanche on Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak here. Colonel Bisht, principal of Nehru Mountaineering Institute said that the bodies of 10 out of 28 trapped in the avalanche have been recovered.  Although 18 people are still missing. While the rescue operation of NDRF, SDRF and Army is going on. Indian Air Force deployed 2 Cheetah helicopters to rescue the stranded trackers.

The accident happened at an altitude of more than 5 thousand meters

According to the PTI report, Draupadi’s stick is located at a height of 5,006 meters.  According to PTI, Uttarkashi Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said that those trapped in the avalanche included trainee climbers of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) and their instructors.

Home Minister, Defense Minister took information about the accident

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said in a tweet that the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, Army and ITBP personnel along with the team of NIM to rescue the trainees trapped in the avalanche in Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak at the earliest.  Relief and rescue operations are being carried out.  28 trainees of Nehru Mountaineering Institute are reported to be trapped due to avalanche.

He tweeted that after talking to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and requested to take the help of the army to speed up the rescue operation, for which he has assured us to give all possible help from the central government.  A rescue operation is being conducted to rescue everyone.

At the same time, Home Minister Amit Shah informed by tweeting that the incident of avalanche in Uttarkashi is very sad.  I have spoken to the officials in this regard.  Local administration, SDRF, NDRF, ITBP and Army teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations with full readiness.

Rescue operation affected by snowfall

A massive operation is being carried out to rescue the trackers, but in the meantime snowfall has started, due to which the pace of the rescue operation has slowed down.  If snowfall is expected to affect the campaign.

Glacier slipped near Kedarnath three days ago

The incident of glacier slipping was reported on October 1 near Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.  Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee chairman Ajendra Ajay had told that there was an avalanche in the Himalayan region in the morning, but there was no damage to the Kedarnath temple.  A video of the snow mountain slipping had also surfaced, showing that the snow mountain had completely collapsed on sight.
