Will Congress get a setback in Maharashtra? Ashok Chavan preparing to leave the party

Is former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan going to leave Congress? These speculations are taking place in Maharashtra amid Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Joda Yatra. The reason for this is the soft attitude of Ashok Chavan towards the BJP and the Eknath Shinde faction. Apart from this, the return gift received by him from the Eknath Shinde government has also given impetus to the claims. On one hand the projects of the Uddhav Thackeray government are being canceled in Maharashtra, while an important plan has been approved in Ashok Chavan’s constituency. Water grid scheme has been approved in Bhokar assembly constituency of Chavan. The Shinde government has approved a plan to supply water to 183 villages of Bhokar. It is a plan of Rs 728 crore and for this tender has been floated 10 days back.

Due to this, discussions have intensified in the political corridors of Maharashtra as to why the Eknath Shinde government is so kind to them. That too at a time when brakes have been put on many plans from his side. It is being said that Ashok Chavan is unhappy with the Congress high command and is contemplating leaving the party. BJP leaders have also given such statements in the last few days, due to which it is being speculated that Chavan may enter the saffron party. The Legislative Council election held in June is also being considered as a reason behind this.

Congress also got a setback in the Legislative Council elections

Congress candidate Chandrakant Handore had to face defeat in the Legislative Council elections held in June. The opinion of Congress MLAs was divided in this election. Interestingly, Handore’s victory was believed to be certain. He was expected to get the first preference votes of the Congress MLAs. But the exact opposite happened. Handore did not get the required votes. However, another Congress candidate Bhai Jagtap had won. During that time there was a lot of discussion about cross voting of Congress MLAs and the party had to face grit in this matter.

Eknath Shinde was helped in the vote of confidence

Let us inform that in June, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government had suffered a setback in the elections to the Rajya Sabha and the Legislative Council. In both the elections, the BJP fielded more candidates despite insufficient votes and was successful in getting its candidates to victory. The reason for this was the cross voting of Congress MLAs. The Aghadi government fell only after these two setbacks. After this Eknath Shinde formed the government with the help of BJP. The government won the vote of confidence. Apart from this, 10 Congress MLAs were missing from the House when the vote on the confidence motion was being held. They had arrived late, including Ashok Chavan.
