Mallikarjun Kharge announces steering committee, names of 47 leaders including Sonia-Rahul

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has announced the steering committee on Wednesday (26 October). Almost all the members of CWC including former president Sonia Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi have been included in the steering committee. There were 23 members in the CWC, the decision-making committee of the Congress. Shashi Tharoor, who contested the election of Congress President against Kharge, is not among the members of the committee. Manish Tiwari’s name is also not in this list.
As per convention, all the members of the CWC submitted their resignations to Kharge soon after he took over as the chairman. As per convention, after the election of a new Congress President, the CWC is dissolved and a Steering Committee is formed in place of the CWC to conduct the affairs of the party. AICC general secretary organization KC Venugopal said, “All CWC members, AICC general secretaries and in-charge have submitted their resignations to the Congress President.”
Kharge took charge
Mallikarjun Kharge officially took charge as the party president on Wednesday (October 26) at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in Delhi in the presence of senior party leaders. Congress Central Election Authority President Madhusudan Mistry handed over the election certificate to Kharge, who defeated Shashi Tharoor. Kharge, who replaced Sonia Gandhi, said it is a matter of pride to carry forward the legacy of the Congress.
Presided over the meeting of the CEC
He presided over the meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the party to finalize the candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections. Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi was also present in the meeting. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will visit Gujarat on 29 October. Kharge will address a public meeting in Navsari, South Gujarat.
Congress in action regarding Gujarat elections
Significantly, three meetings of the Congress Screening Committee have been held for the Gujarat Assembly elections. The Congress is trying to topple the BJP government in Gujarat and is also facing a challenge from the Aam Aadmi Party which is trying to establish itself in the state. BJP is in power in Gujarat continuously since 1998. Assembly elections in Gujarat will be held before the end of the year.
