Putin did not congratulate Rishi Sunak for becoming PM, said Russia does not consider Britain a friend

While Indian-american Rishi Sunak is getting congratulations from all over the world on becoming the Prime Minister of Britain, Russia is a country that did not congratulate him. The Kremlin issued a statement on Wednesday saying Russian President Vladimir Putin did not congratulate Rishi Sanak on his election as Britain’s prime minister because Russia does not consider Britain as its friendly country.

The day before, Sage Sunak spoke to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on the phone as soon as he took office. To this, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded by saying, “What should we do with someone becoming prime minister, we have a better relationship with Britain.”  Russia further said that Russia does not see any such ‘precondition, grounds or hope’ for any constructive relationship with Britain in the near future.

Biden congratulates Sunak, discusses Russia-Ukraine conflict

US President Joe Biden called Rishi Sunak on Tuesday to congratulate him on becoming Prime Minister. According to PTI, the White House told about the conversation that the two leaders supported Ukraine, held Russia responsible for its aggression, met China.  Agreed on the importance of working together to meet the challenges faced and to safeguard sustainable and affordable energy resources.

Sunak said after the phone conversation that America and Britain are the closest allies.  “I look forward to working closely with the President of the United States to continue our leading role in promoting stability around the world and supporting the people of Ukraine,” he tweeted.

It was only after Rishi Sunak became the PM that Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him.  He had also tweeted – As soon as you become the PM of the UK, I look forward to working together on global issues and implementing Roadmap 2030.

He also said that Sunak’s victory came on the day Hindus around the world started the five-day festival of Diwali – a celebration of the victory of good over evil.  A surprising turnaround in Sunak’s fortunes came just weeks after he lost to Liz Truss to lead the ruling Tories.
