Gujarat has got another big gift before the assembly elections. A manufacturing plant for the production of Airbus C-295 transport aircraft will be set up in Vadodara, Gujarat. Officials said the foundation stone laying ceremony of the facility will be held on October 30 and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar said, “For the first time C-295 aircraft will be manufactured outside Europe.” An agreement worth about Rs 21,000 crore was signed with Airbus Defense and Space for this. Under this project, military aircraft are to be manufactured in India for the first time by a private company.
The Defense Secretary said, “This is the first project of its kind in which a military aircraft will be manufactured in India by a private company. The total cost of the project is ₹ 21,935 crore. The aircraft can also be used for civilian purposes. ”
Under the agreement, Airbus will supply the first 16 aircraft in flight condition from its final assembly line in Seville, Spain, within four years and the latter 40 aircraft will be manufactured and ‘assembled’ by Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) in India. The construction will take place as part of an industrial partnership between the two companies. Regulatory approval for the ambitious program was granted by the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA) last week.
