There will be one uniform for the police across the country? PM Modi suggested ‘one nation, one uniform’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advocated ‘One Nation, One Uniform’ for the police. PM Modi said on Friday that it should not be imposed, but it needs to be considered. It is important to maintain a good perception about the police, he added. PM Modi addressed the 2-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ organized by the Union Home Ministry for the Home Ministers of all the states through video conference in New Delhi. During this he said these things.

The Prime Minister said that ‘One Nation, One Uniform’ is just an idea for the police. I am not trying to impose this on you all. You think about it. It could happen in 5, 50 or 100 years. But we should think about it. The Prime Minister said that he believes that the identity of the police can be uniform across the country.

PM Modi has stressed upon all the states to work together for internal security. He said on Friday that law and order is directly related to development, so it is everyone’s responsibility to maintain peace. He said that each state should learn from each other, take inspiration and work together for internal security.

‘States should work together on internal security’

Narendra Modi said, ‘Working together of states for internal security is a constitutional mandate as well as a responsibility towards the country. All agencies should cooperate with each other to ensure efficiency, better results and safety of common man. Law and order situation is a state subject as per the constitution. However, he is equally concerned with the unity and integrity of the country.

‘Review the laws made before independence’

The objective of the 2-day Chintan Shivir is to prepare an action plan for implementation of ‘Vision 2047’ and ‘Panch Prana’, which were announced by Prime Minister Modi in his Independence Day address. PM Modi also asked the states to review the laws made before independence and amend them in the current context.
