Brazil out of World Cup, but Neymar creates history, equals Pele in goals
Brazil, the 5-time world champion and the world’s number 1 team, may have been knocked out after losing to Croatia on Friday, but star footballer Neymar created history. Neymar scored his 77th goal for Brazil on Friday. With this goal, he equaled Pelé as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer. The Brazilian forward scored in the first half of extra time of his team’s World Cup quarter-final match against Croatia.
Pele is receiving treatment in a Brazilian hospital
Neymar had entered the tournament two goals short of the milestone. He scored his 76th goal in the round of 16 against South Korea after returning from an ankle injury. Pele is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Brazil, where his condition is said to be critical. The latest reports said that the condition of 82-year-old Pele is fine after surgery.

77 goals in 124 matches
Neymar, 30, has scored 77 goals in 124 appearances for Brazil. Ronaldo, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, is third on the list with 62 goals in 98 matches. Neymar first played for Brazil in 2010 at the age of 18. He is trying to win his first major title with the national team. Pele won three World Cups, including the 1958 tournament. In which he was only 17 years old. He also helped Brazil win the World Cup in 1962 and 1970.
Third world cup
Neymar was playing in his third World Cup. Apart from Pelé and Ronaldo, he is the only other Brazilian player to score in three different World Cups. He helped the Selecao win the 2013 Confederations Cup and their first Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. Neymar injured his ankle in Brazil’s opening win against Serbia.
