Uttar Pradesh: Sunday is a holiday instead of Friday in madrassas! The final decision will be taken in the board meeting

The Uttar Pradesh Madarsa Board (UP Madarsa Board) has been submitted a proposal to have a weekly off on Sundays instead of Fridays in madrassas. The final decision in this regard will be taken in the board meeting to be held in January. Uttar Pradesh Madarsa Education Board Chairman Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Javed said on Wednesday that a meeting was called on Tuesday in connection with the necessary amendments and changes in the ‘Uttar Pradesh Non-Governmental Arabic and Persian Recognition Administration and Service Regulation-2016’. Board members as well as representatives of a large number of madrasas took part in it.
According to Javed, in the meeting, it was proposed to have a weekly holiday in madrassas on Sundays instead of Fridays. Such a demand was also being made by the people associated with the madrassas for a long time regarding the weekly holiday in the madrassas. However, representatives of many madrassas also opposed this proposal in the meeting.
Board Chairman Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Javed said, “This proposal has been discussed. However, no decision has been taken yet. The final decision on this will be taken in the board meeting to be held in January.
Weekly holiday is given on Friday due to Friday prayers
It is worth mentioning that not only in Uttar Pradesh, but possibly in madrasas across the country, there is a weekly holiday on Fridays only. Friday prayers are offered only on Friday, which has special importance in Islam. In view of the preparations for Jumma, Fridays are given holiday in Madrasas.
Wrong message will go from Sunday holiday instead of Friday
Diwan Saheb Zaman, general secretary of Teachers Association Madaris Arabiya, Uttar Pradesh, said, “Special arrangements are made for Friday prayers, that is why Fridays have always been given as leave in madrassas. If this system is changed, it will send a wrong message.” He told that only a few people attended the meeting of the Madrasa Board on Tuesday. Instead of Friday, it was advocated to arrange a weekly holiday on Sunday. Diwan Saheb Zaman said that although during this time all the other people had opposed it.
