PM Modi’s warning on laxity regarding Corona, advice to increase testing and strict monitoring
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the latest situation of COVID-19 in the country in a high-level meeting on Thursday. During this, important suggestions were given along with some instructions from PM Modi. In the meeting, the Prime Minister warned against laxity regarding Corona and advised to keep a close watch on the situation. The PM also stressed on the need for stronger surveillance with a focus on increasing genome sequencing and testing. Not only this, states were also advised to ensure operational readiness of hospital infrastructure and follow Covid appropriate behaviour, including wearing of masks.
In the meeting, emphasis was laid on preventive dose vaccination for the elderly and those whose immunity is weak. On this occasion, PM Narendra Modi appreciated the selfless service of frontline workers and Corona warriors. According to the PMO, Prime Minister Modi said that the Corona epidemic is not over yet. He directed the officials to strengthen the ongoing surveillance measures especially at international airports.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to ensure that preparedness in terms of equipment, processes and human resources at all levels is of a high standard. He advised the states to take account of COVID specific facilities related to hospital infrastructure including oxygen cylinders, PSA plants, ventilators and human resources.
The PMO said that during the meeting, a comprehensive presentation was made about the status of Kovid in the country and the global COVID-19 situation. The Prime Minister was informed that in the week ending December 22, 2022, India is witnessing a steady decline in cases with the average daily cases coming down to 153 and the weekly infection rate coming down to 0.14 per cent. However, for the last 6 weeks, a daily average of 5.9 lakh cases have been registered globally.
