15 girl students fell ill after having midday meal at a government school in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh. Tantrik was allegedly called for his treatment. The Commission observed that if the contents of the media reports are true, it tantamounts to violation of human rights of the victim girl students who were allegedly subjected to superstition in a government school instead of being taken to hospital for treatment by the school authorities .

CO and SDM girl students were admitted to the hospital

The NHRC said in a statement that the commission has taken suo moto cognizance of media reports that girl students had fallen ill after consuming the mid-day meal provided by the school administration. It was told that after eating the food, a student fainted and fell down. On getting the news, the villagers also reached the school. After this, a tantrik was called for the treatment of 15 girl students. The villagers believe that the school is haunted by ghosts. When the CO and SDM got the information about the exorcism of the girl students, they reached the spot. It is being told that after the intervention of the police, the girl students were taken to the hospital.

‘Substandard mid-day meal served’

The statement said that the Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh asking him to submit a detailed report within four weeks. According to the statement, it is hoped that this will include the steps taken or to be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the state in future. Issuing the notice, the commission also said that apparently substandard mid-day meal would have been served to the girl students.

The age of the girl students is between 9 and 13 years

The police called an ambulance and admitted the girl students to the nearest CHC. The SDM told that the samples of the mid-day mill have been given to the food inspector and orders have been given for investigation. The age of the girl students falling ill is between 9 and 13 years. Some girl students told that even a day or two ago, the condition of some children had deteriorated. After some time he was fine.
