Prominent leader Aung San sentenced again in Myanmar, will now be in jail for 33 years

A Myanmar court on Friday sentenced the country’s ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi in another case. Since 2021, the court has given its verdict on San Suu Kyi in many different cases. Now Aung San Suu Kyi will have to spend a total of 33 years in jail. Earlier, he was tried in many other crimes in which he was later convicted. After the recently pronounced sentence, his total sentence has gone up to 33 years including the previous 26 years in prison. Different political charges have also been leveled against him.

Her supporters and other global analysts say that all these crimes against Aung San Suu Kyi are to keep her away from the upcoming elections. Myanmar’s military regime has promised to hold elections next year. The government is keeping the details of all these hearings and punishments away from the media or other people. Friday’s verdict was briefed by a legal official in a specially set up court room at the main prison on the outskirts of the capital, who requested anonymity for fear of being penalized by authorities. The trial was kept away from the media, diplomats and the public, and Suu Kyi’s lawyers were not allowed to talk about it.
