Uttarakhand: Harish Rawat’s silent fast in Gandhi Park, sought compensation for Joshimath affected

Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat sat on a silent fast (Harish Rawat maun vrat in Gandhi Park) under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Park in Dehradun. Harish Rawat is sitting on a symbolic fast to register his protest against the steps taken by the government so far regarding the Joshimath disaster. Harish Rawat is registering his protest against the government by keeping a fast for one hour today. During this, former Congress state president Ganesh Godial, former MLA Manoj Rawat and all other Congress leaders were present with him. Harish Rawat, sitting on a silent fast in Gandhi Park, said that demolition is being done in Joshimath without compensation. Harish Rawat said that orders have been given to demolish two hotels of Joshimath without making any alternative arrangements. Along with this, many more houses of Joshimath have also been identified for this. Harish Rawat said that first the government should help the disaster affected people. Compensation should be announced for the victims. After that further action should be taken.

Number of buildings with cracks reached 723, 86 unsafe

The number of unsafe buildings in Joshimath is continuously increasing. On Tuesday, 45 more buildings were identified by the administration. In this way, a total of 723 buildings have been marked unsafe so far. Out of these, 86 buildings have been declared completely unsafe and have been marked red. Soon the process of demolishing these buildings will start.

462 families displaced

So far 462 families have been temporarily displaced by the Chamoli district administration. On Tuesday, 381 people were shifted from their homes to safer places. While earlier 81 families were shifted. So far, a total of 344 rooms have been acquired by the administration in various institutions and buildings. Arrangements have been made to accommodate 1425 people in these.
