It may be known that many social organizations in Rajasthan have been agitating for the last several years to remove the idol of Manu. It is said that after the installation of the statue of Manu in the court premises, the demand for its removal started arising.

On the other hand, in Jaipur last December, a protest was held on behalf of the Daman Resistance Movement Rajasthan (Dalits, Tribals, Minorities and Women) at the Martyr’s Memorial for the removal of the statue of Maharishi Manu, the author of Manusmriti, from the premises of the Jaipur bench of the Rajasthan High Court. It was where Manusmriti was also burnt.

Who will run the country, asked the Supreme Court

According to the media report, the petitioner Ramjilal Bairwa says that the country is run by the Constitution, but the statue of Manu has been installed in the High Court premises for years, in such a situation, we have asked the Supreme Court whether the country is run by the Constitution or Manu Smriti?

On the other hand, another fellow petitioner, 48-year-old Jagdish Gurjar, says that how can justice be expected for the backward in the premises where Manu’s statue is installed? At the same time, it has been said in the petition that the statue of Manu installed in the High Court Jaipur is anti-constitutional, which should be removed from there.

On the other hand, on this dispute, Amitosh Pareek of the Law Cell of Vishwa Hindu Parishad says that in our country the sacrifice and penance of a saint is worshiped and this type of dispute attacks the culture and civilization of India. Pareek said that instead of worshiping the saint who united India, there is talk of uprooting the idol, so we request that the High Court should not listen to such matters.

Apart from this, advocate AK Jain, in another petition filed by the Dalit Manch regarding the removal of Manu’s statue, says that the protest against the removal of Manu’s statue has been going on for a long time, which is also true to a large extent. Jain said that this matter has been linked to religiosity and casteism while there is no justification for installing Manu’s statue in the court.

Jain told that there should not be any kind of temple, mosque and church in the court premises, should there be a statue of Manu and a statue of Constitution maker Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar or Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi should be installed here.

Issue raised in Bharat Jodo Yatra as well

On the other hand, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra that passed through Rajasthan recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met the representatives of various social organizations in Rajasthan, even during that time the issue of installation of Manu’s statue in the court premises was raised. In this dialogue programme, women activists of many organizations strongly advocated for the removal of Manu’s statue installed in front of the Rajasthan High Court.

Manusmriti was burnt in Jaipur

On the other hand, in December last year, in the capital Jaipur, a protest was organized at the Martyr’s Memorial on Sunday, 25 December, by the Daman Resistance Movement Rajasthan (Dalits, Tribals, Minorities and Women) for the removal of Manu’s statue from the premises of the Jaipur bench of the Rajasthan High Court. Went. In this demonstration, Manusmriti was also burnt as a protest.

On the other hand, activists and office bearers associated with all the constituent organizations of Daman Resistance Movement said that this movement is being done for the immediate removal of Manu’s statue and we demand from the Government of India and Rajasthan that it should take an immediate decision to remove Manumurti. .

And in 2020, Dalit rights activists protested silently in the High Court for the removal of the statue. Also last year, around 500 Dalit activists including academics and journalists wrote a letter to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to look into the matter.

Manu’s statue was installed in 1989

In fact, on June 28, 1989, the statue of Manu was installed in the Rajasthan High Court during the beautification work. Media reports say that according to the request of the then president of the Rajasthan High Court Officers’ Association, Padam Kumar Jain, the then Justice MM Kasliwala approved the establishment of this statue by letter number 0303.

After this, the Lions Club for the statue was given a grant for the statue and it was established. At the same time, from the day of the installation of the statue, it started opposing it, after which several agitations have taken place.

On the other hand, in view of the continuous protests, it was decided to remove this statue in 48 hours in the administrative meeting of the High Court on 28 July 1989, but in the meantime a writ petition was filed on behalf of Acharya Dharmendra of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which Later, Justice Mahendra Bhushan’s bench issued orders to maintain the status quo.

At the same time, in 2018, two women blackened Manu Murthy, after which this issue became very hot in those days. After this, the police have detained two women, who have been identified as residents of Aurangabad in Bihar, on charges of blackening.
