Uttarakhand: CM Dhami reviews relief works, orders to check drainage system of cities

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today held a meeting with the officials regarding the relief work being done in Joshimath. In this meeting the work being done in Joshimath was reviewed. In the meeting, CM Dhami asked the officials to speed up the relief works as well as take forward the rehabilitation works. CM Dhami also instructed the officials to pay special attention to Joshimath.
The Chief Minister said that suggestions should be taken after meeting the people there for displacement. District Magistrate Chamoli should send the report to the government as soon as possible after taking suggestions from the local people. The Chief Minister said that better arrangements will be made by the government for the people who will be displaced from the affected area of Joshimath. He instructed the officers that in the cities of the state which do not have proper drainage plan and sewer system, an action plan should be made in a phased manner for drainage and sewer system. Cities should be marked category wise.
Before this, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday. In which Chief Minister Dhami gave feedback to Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Joshimath sinking. CM Dhami also discussed in detail with Home Minister Amit Shah about the present situation of Joshimath. Along with this, CM Dhami told that the state government is taking all necessary steps for the rescue and relief operation in Joshimath.
At the same time, Secretary Disaster Management Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sinha said that in the preliminary investigation report of National Hydrology (NIH), the water seeping in Joshimath and the tunnel water of NTPC project are different. He said that the situation will be completely clear after the reports of other central agencies and the final report of NIH come. He said that 258 families of the landslide affected area of Joshimath have been accommodated in relief camps. All necessary facilities are being provided to them. He said that both water discharge and silt in the affected area have reduced drastically.
At the same time, the process of demolishing the buildings affected by the landslide is going on in Joshimath. In Joshimath, after dangerous cracks appeared in various buildings and structures, the work of demolishing the damaged buildings is being done at a fast pace. Today the work of demolishing the Joshimath PWD guest house has been started. Big cracks had also appeared in the guest house of Public Works Department, Joshimath. In view of which the administration issued an order for the demolition of the building under disaster management rules. Today the work of demolishing the guest house of Public Works Department has been started. Along with this, some buildings of JP Colony in Marwari can also be demolished soon.
Joshimath update
A total of 615 rooms with a capacity of 2,190 people in Joshimath and 491 rooms with a capacity of 2,205 people in Pipalkoti have been made temporary relief camps. The number of buildings that have developed cracks has increased to 849 and so far 250 families have been evacuated to safer places. CM Dhami said that there is no need to panic over the situation in Joshimath and people sitting in other parts of the country should not comment on it.
