Sonam Wangchuk of ‘All is not well’, ‘3 Idiots’ appealed to PM Modi, said- save me otherwise…

Ladakh’s social reformer Sonam Wangchuk has expressed deep concern about the Himalayan region, especially the glaciers of Ladakh. Wangchuk also posted a video on his Twitter handle last Saturday and expressed concern and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save the glaciers of Ladakh from extinction. Bollywood film ‘3 Idiots’ has been made on the life of social reformer Wangchuk. Wangchuk has also given suggestions to PM Modi regarding the security and protection of Ladakh. A study in the Union Territory of Ladakh has suggested the extinction of two-thirds of the glaciers.
While talking to news agency ANI, Sonam Wangchuk also stressed that if this negligence continues in Ladakh and industries refrain from providing security, then the glaciers here will become extinct. . This will create huge water shortage and problems in India and its neighbourhood.
Wangchuk, appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has said in the posted video message that all is not well in Ladakh. Also praised Prime Minister Modi for banning single use plastic. Along with this, he tells how the world criticizes the stance of Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Joe Biden and other leaders on the issue of environment.
In a 13-minute long video shared by Wangchuk on his YouTube channel, he made an ‘urgent’ appeal to the people of the country and the world to help protect the “ecologically sensitive” region of Ladakh. He has urged PM Modi to intervene to protect the fragile ecosystem under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

He also said in a tweet, “All is not well in Ladakh! In my latest video I appeal to PM Narendra Modi to intervene and provide protection to the fragile environment of Ladakh. To draw the attention of the government and the world, I am planning to sit on #ClimateFast for 5 days at 18000 feet -40 degrees Celsius in Khardungla pass from 26th January.
Wangchuk said that he wants his message to reach PM Modi and the people on Republic Day, for which he will fast for five days at Khardungla Pass. He told that I will observe a 5-day long fast (symbolic fast) at the temperature of minus 40 degrees at Khardungla Pass to send my message that if the threats are not stopped then these glaciers will no longer survive.
Wangchuk, a mechanical engineer and director of Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), was born in 1966 and also received the Magsaysay Award in 2018. Wangchuk’s personality also inspired the fictional character of Phunsukh Wangdu, played by Aamir Khan in the 2009 film.
Wangchuk is also known for founding his innovative school, Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), a Ladakh-based engineer. Their complex runs on solar energy. Does not use fossil fuels for cooking, lighting or heating. Apart from this, Wangchuk also launched Operation New Hope in 1994 to reform the government school system.
