In Karnataka, an incident that has embarrassed society has come to light. Where, in Kellur village of Jewargi taluk, a man allegedly strangled his wife’s ‘dark color’ to death. Both of them were married seven years ago and both have two children. One child is two years old and the other is four years old. According to the report of The New Indian Express, the woman’s name was Farzana Begum. Farzana was married to Khaja Patel seven years ago. Khurshid, cousin of Mahile, said that Patel used to torture Farzana due to black color when she was married. Even Patel used to say that no matter how much powder she should put on her face, but she can never look like a heroine. Troubled by the harassment of her husband, Farzana also informed her parents about this. Khurshid has alleged that Patel as well as his family used to persecute Farzana, demanding more dowry by citing his status. Khurshid said that he came to know about the incident when a milkman from Kellur called and reported Farzana’s death. When he reached Kellur with Farzana’s parents, both the children were hugged by the dead body.

Accused ran with family

Farzana’s family reached the police station regarding the matter and lodged a complaint against Patel and his family there. As soon as the information was reported to Patel and his family, everyone escaped due to fear of arrest. The victim was cremated in Shahapur after post -mortem of the body in a hospital in Kalburgi. Khurshid said that Farzana’s parents have come to Shahapur with both her children.

Umesh Chikamath, deputy SP of Kalburgi Rural, has said that a case of dowry harassment has been registered on the basis of the complaint of the victim’s family. Post mortem report is awaited. The police has started investigating the case and further action is being taken to arrest the accused.
