FIH Pro League: India won with the help of Harmanpreet’s hat-trick, beat Australia 5-4 in Pro Hockey League
Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat-trick as India beat Australia 5-4 in a hard-fought match in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League. Harmanpreet scored all his three goals on penalty corners. Harmanpreet scored his goals in the 13th, 14th and 55th minutes at the Birsamunda Stadium.
Australia opened their account in the second minute through a field goal from Joshua Beltz. The Indian team was leading 2-1 after the first quarter. Jugraj Singh scored a penalty stroke in the 17th minute. Selvam then scored a goal in the 25th minute to put India ahead 4-1 at the interval. The Indian team, which defeated world champions Germany 3-2 in their first match on Friday, did not score any goals in the third quarter.
Scored a goal in the 42nd minute for Australia with the help of Willot. In the fourth quarter, Australia scored twice from penalty corners in the 52nd and 56th minutes with the help of Ben Stenness and Aran Jelewski. Harmanpreet also scored a goal in the fourth quarter, which was his hat-trick goal. Both the teams got ten penalty corners with India converting three and Australia converting two.
Australia’s team also included many players who played in the World Cup. Australia finished fourth in the World Cup. India’s team did not have eight players from the World Cup squad including Akashdeep, Mandeep and Neelkant Sharma. India was eliminated in the pre-quarterfinals of the World Cup.
