India’s worst defeat in ODIs: Australia beat by 10 wickets with 234 balls
Indian fans will not be able to forget today, even if they want to, India had to face the biggest defeat in ODI history (in terms of wickets and balls left) in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. In the second match of the 3-match ODI series, Australia defeated the Indian team by 10 wickets with 234 balls to spare. The previous record was of 212 balls. Which was made by New Zealand in Hamilton in 2019. The Indian team has lost by 10 wickets for the sixth time in ODIs.
With this win, the three-match series has come to an exciting turn. Now both the teams are tied at 1-1. The third and deciding match will be played in Chennai on March 22.
The Australian captain won the toss and decided to field at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Electing to bat, the Indian team was bundled out for a modest score of 117 in 26 overs. Except for Virat Kohli (31 runs), no one else batted. Akshar Patel definitely played a struggling inning of 29 runs. Stark took 5 wickets for the 9th time in ODIs. Abbott got three and Ellis got two wickets.
The target of 118 runs was chased by the Australian openers in just 11 overs. This is the fastest run chase in ODIs against India. Earlier, New Zealand chased the target in 14.4 overs in 2019. Kangaroo team’s Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh had an unbeaten 121-run century partnership on 66 balls. None of India’s bowlers got wickets.
