Bangladeshi batsman scored the fastest ODI century, finally broke the years old record
In 2015, South Africa’s legendary batsman AB de Villiers hit the fastest century in the history of ODI cricket. He scored a century facing only 31 balls. Even after 8 years, no player could reach near this record of AB. But Bangladesh veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim broke the record of scoring the fastest century for his country on Monday.
Rahim broke a big record
Mushfiqur Rahim scored a century in 60 balls on Monday, which is the fastest century by a Bangladeshi player. Rahim reached the landmark off the final ball of Bangladesh’s innings in the 2nd ODI against Ireland in Sylhet. He did this feat with the help of 14 fours and two sixes at a strike-rate of 166.66. The feat was earlier accomplished in 63 balls by Shakib Al Hasan, which came against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in 2009.
Batting came in the 34th over
Rahim’s century came after being put in to bat in the 34th over of the innings. The wicketkeeper-batsman remained unbeaten on 100 runs. Along with this, Rahim also completed 7000 ODI runs. He has become the third batsman from Bangladesh after Shakib and Tamim Iqbal to do so. Rahim now has 9 ODI centuries to his name. Bangladesh scored 338 runs in the first match against Ireland two days ago, which was their highest score in ODIs, surpassing 333 against Australia in the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Big Win
Bangladesh recorded an impressive 183-run victory, their biggest win in terms of runs. Here, they scored 349/6 courtesy Rahim’s brilliant century, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s 73 off 77 balls and Towhid Hridoy’s 49 off 34 balls.
