Now after being stolen, the phone will become a box, no SIM will work!
Almost every user who uses a smartphone must have lost or stolen his phone at some point of time, in which case there is no other option but to get worried. Now the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has given big news, due to which the thieves are about to come. Now the stolen smartphone cannot be used again and the SIM card of any company will not work in it. DoT has launched Central Equipment Identity Registry (CEIR), in which IMEI database will be registered on behalf of all mobile operators. This database will help in blacklisting the devices. CEIR will register all the smartphones that have been officially launched and manufactured by the smartphone brands. Its purpose is to prevent the use of stolen smartphones without IMEI numbers. Let us tell you, CEIR was first launched in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Goa and Maharashtra on September 13, 2019. After this, on December 30, 2019, the registry was prepared while launching it in Delhi as well. The special thing is that the misuse of smartphones included in the registry can be stopped remotely and for this one will not have to go through a long process.
How will the Central Equipment Identity Registry work?
CEIR will act as a central system for all network operators, in which the list of blacklisted devices will be shared by all network operators. The advantage of this will be that the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card of another company cannot be used in any one blocklisted device. In case of theft of his phone, any user will be able to request to block the IMEI number of the phone by visiting the official web portal. In this way that smartphone will be completely useless.
You can get your device blacklisted like this
Users will be able to place a request with the IEMI number by visiting CEIR’s web portal ceir.gov.in to get the device blacklisted. For this, a copy of the police FIR, the receipt received during the purchase of the mobile and the information related to the device, besides ID proof will also have to be given. After this, a request to blacklist the lost or stolen phone can be registered. After this request is accepted, the device will stop working within 24 hours and will not be able to use any mobile network in India.
In case of getting the phone, you can also get it unblocked
If the user gets his phone back, a request can be submitted on the CEIR website to unblock it. After this the device will start working as before. Initially launched in select states, CEIR has now been launched in all states across the country. With its help, things like blocking a stolen or lost mobile, unblocking it in case the phone is found, checking request status, IMEI verification and Know Your Mobile (KYM) status checking can be done.
