Uttarakhand / Rishikesh: Sister-in-law was talking with sister-in-law on video calling, heard a scream, and went missing

A newly married woman, who was staying with her husband at Paradise Camp located in Shivpuri of Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway, went missing under suspicious circumstances from the banks of the Ganges on late Saturday night. The newly married woman was talking with her sister-in-law on video calling near the camp. A scream was heard from her, after which she disappeared. Mobile and slippers have been recovered from the spot, the police is probing the matter.

Inspector-in-charge Ritesh Shah told that Himanshu Pachauri and his wife Nandini (20 years) resident of Village Usayani, Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh were staying at Paradise Camp since Saturday. Nandini and Himanshu got married on February 10 this year.
Both had dinner on Saturday night. After which Nandini sent her husband to get cold drink at around 11 pm. She herself was talking to sister-in-law through video calling on mobile. While talking, she went towards the banks of the Ganges.

While Himanshu was returning from the shop, he heard Nandini’s screams. After which the voice became silent. Himanshu ran towards the banks of the Ganges, called the camp staff for help. Mobile light was shining on a stone on the spot, a sandal was lying at a distance, but Nandini was nowhere. Himanshu says that the water nearby was not that much that someone could drown in it. On Sunday, after getting the information, Himanshu’s elder brother Vikram Pachauri, younger sister and other relatives reached. The police, with the help of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), searched for Nandini in the Ganges, but could not find anything.

During interrogation, the camp personnel told the police that there is also an influx of elephants in the surrounding area. During the investigation, no footprints of the elephant have been found by the police at present. The police are also looking at the CCTV footage of the surrounding area.
