This is the letter from the Lok Sabha, which in one stroke made Rahul Gandhi from MP to ‘former MP’
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership has come to an end. On Thursday, Surat court had declared him guilty in the defamation case and sentenced him to 2 years in jail. After this today the Lok Sabha Secretariat disqualified him and issued a notice to end his membership of Parliament.
Under which rule did Rahul Gandhi’s membership go?
Let us inform that Rahul Gandhi was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In a notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, it has been said that his disqualification order will be effective from March 23. The notification states that he (Rahul Gandhi) has been disqualified under Article 102(1) of the Constitution and Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act 1951.
Court granted bail
Significantly, a Surat court on Thursday sentenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to two years imprisonment in a criminal defamation case filed in 2019 against him for his remark on ‘Modi surname’. The court also granted bail to Rahul and stayed the execution of his sentence for 30 days, so that the Congress leader could challenge the verdict.
