Uttarakhand: There is no criteria for only one medical college in a district, there should be land in that area as per the prescribed norms – Union Health Minister

Providing better health facilities in Uttarakhand has always been a challenge for the government due to the odd geographical conditions. This is the reason why the state government is making an effort to open medical colleges in all the districts. So that better health facilities can be made available to the patients even in the hilly areas. Legislators have raised the demand for medical colleges in Bhagwanpur and Roorkee in Haridwar district. Regarding which the same answer always comes from the government that only one medical college can be opened in a district. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has clarified the situation by giving a statement on this.
Actually, there are no medical colleges in many districts of Uttarakhand. In such a situation, every time there is a demand to open a medical college. To which the government’s answer remains that only one medical college can be opened in a district. Apart from this, by telling all the rules from the government and the government level, the demand for the medical college is stopped. At the same time, on the question of opening two medical colleges in one district, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya made a big disclosure and said that there is no criteria for one medical college in one district. Rather, according to the criteria set for opening a medical college, a 400-bed hospital should already be operating in the area. Along with this, there should be land in that area according to the fixed standards.
It may be noted that during the recent assembly budget session held at Gairsain in Uttarakhand, the MLAs of Bhagwanpur and Roorkee had raised the demand for setting up a medical college in their respective constituencies. During that time, Uttarakhand’s Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat had said that only one medical college can be built in a district. Therefore, the hospital in his constituency can be upgraded, but a medical college cannot be built. In such a situation, contradiction is now being seen in the statements of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Uttarakhand Health Minister Dhan Singh Rawat.
However, a medical college is coming up in Haridwar. Due to which the patients will be very comfortable, but in the present time, more pressure is always seen on the Government Doon Medical College Hospital. Because, not only patients from Dehradun and other parts of the state reach Doon Hospital, but also patients from some districts of the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh reach for treatment. This is the reason why the MLAs of Bhagwanpur and Roorkee are demanding medical colleges in their respective areas.
