Indian hockey team captain and goalkeeper Savita Poonia has tied the knot. Savita Poonia, a resident of Jodhkan village of Sirsa, married Ankit Balhara of Canada. The wedding took place in a private palace in Zirakpur. This is arranged marriage. Her family members searched for a groom for Savita. Ankit is originally from Sonipat.
Father Mahendra Poonia told that his son-in-law Ankit Balhara did not take dowry in the marriage and took only Re 1 as Shagun. Ankit Haryanvi is the son of Chandrawal film director and artist Bhal Singh Balhara. Ankit Balhara is a software engineer in a bank in Canada. Also a playback singer in the film industry.
The talk of marriage was going on for 1 year
The talk of marriage of Savita Poonia and Ankit Balhara was going on for the last one year. Savita and Ankit’s families first started talking to each other through video calls. After this, after the relationship was finalized last April, both the families started meeting each other. Family relatives played a role in getting the two married. On 5th April both got married.
Savita’s Olympic 2024 target
Savita’s father Mahendra Singh Poonia told that of course Savita got married in Canada. But now she will remain in India only. His target is the 2024 Olympics. So she will continue her game. We had a social responsibility, we fulfilled it. Savita Poonia has also received the Arjuna Award.
The Great Wall was built for the Tokyo Olympics
Hockey player Savita Punia became The Great Wall of India by saving 8 penalty corners against Australia in the Tokyo Olympics. Since then Savita Poonia has been named The Great Wall of India.
