“Proud day…”: UK PM Rishi Sunak on mother-in-law Sudha Murthy receiving Padma award
Writer and social worker Sudha Murthy was recently awarded the Padma Bhushan by President Draupadi Murmu for her social work. His daughter, Akshata Murthy, who is married to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, was among those present at the ceremony. Later, he took to Instagram to share his “speakless pride” as his mother received the award for her extraordinary journey. UK PM Rishi Sunak reacted to the same and said that it is a “proud day”.
Akshata Murthy wrote, “Yesterday I watched with unspeakable pride as my mother received the Padma Bhushan award from the President of India for her contribution to social work.” Britain’s first lady claimed that her mother has had a remarkable journey. He emphasized the many ways in which his mother has supported people, including organizing various programs to increase literacy and providing immediate relief and help to those living in remote areas of the country after natural calamities .
“His example volunteering, learning & hearing has put it in my heart that I hope to live like this at @10downingstreet,” she added. The First Lady of the United Kingdom further stated that the ceremony was a “moving experience”. “My mother doesn’t live for recognition. Responding to the same, her husband and UK PM Rishi Sunak commented on the post, “A proud day,” with emoji.
Sudha Murthy’s husband and Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, son Rohan Murthy and her sister Dr Sunanda Kulkarni were also present at the ceremony. Philanthropist and renowned author, Sudha Murthy, was also the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation till December 2021.
