44 prisoners found HIV positive in Haldwani jail of Uttarakhand, one woman also infected

44 inmates of Haldwani Jail in Uttarakhand have been found to be Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) positive. ART center in-charge of Sushila Tiwari Hospital, Dr. Paramjit Singh said that 44 inmates including one female inmate are also HIV positive. According to the doctor, due to the continuous increase in the number of HIV-infected prisoners, there has been a stir in the jail administration. Talking about the treatment of prisoners, Singh said that an ART (Antiretroviral Therapy) center has been set up for HIV patients, where infected people are treated. He said that my team is continuously checking the prisoners in the jail.
Dr. Paramjit Singh said, “Any inmate who is infected with HIV is given free treatment and medicines based on the guidelines of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO).”Singh said that the jail has 1629 male and female prisoners. There are 70 female prisoners. After such a large number of inmates have been found to be HIV positive, the jail administration is also conducting regular check-ups of the inmates so that timely treatment of HIV infected inmates can be done.

Symptoms of HIV-

Some people infected with HIV develop a flu-like illness within 2 to 4 weeks after the virus enters the body. This illness, known as primary (acute) HIV infection, can last for a few weeks. Possible signs and symptoms of this include the following. Such as fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, rash, sore throat, painful mouth ulcers, swollen lymph glands, mainly in the neck, diarrhea, weight loss, cough, night sweats. Sometimes the above symptoms can be so mild that you may not even notice them.
