77 slum pockets have been shown in the master plan, in which thousands of constructions are on the river bank, river land or its surroundings. According to the records of the Municipal Corporation, the land type of 16 settlements is river. It cannot be changed. That is why in the plan prepared till 2041, it has been recommended to shift the houses built within the radius of Tee on the banks of Rispana and Bindal rivers.

According to the Irrigation Department, it is necessary to shift the houses built in the flood zone as soon as possible. Apart from this, there are 52 such pockets in which 11500 constructions on government or private land have to be made concrete by the government regarding their regularization. Only then it will be clear to give ownership rights to the people.

Slums are divided into three categories Slums are divided into three categories. In the first category there are such settlements which are situated at a reasonable distance from the river area. In the second category are those settlements where work needs to be done in terms of security. While in the third category, there are sixteen settlements whose landuse is river and they will have to be rehabilitated. Urban Development Department and MDDA will have to work in this direction with speed.
Uttarakhand’s Chief Town Planner, Shashi Mohan Srivastava said that provision for affordable housing scheme has been made in the master plan. Slum rehabilitation is a part of that. If the government approves any future residential plan for the people of the township, then it will be permissible in every land use of the master plan. The master plan will not become a hindrance anywhere in such schemes.
