Meteorological Department’s forecast of normal rain this year

Monsoon is expected to be normal this year. The Meteorological Department gave this information on Tuesday. A day earlier, private weather agency Skymet had forecast less than normal rainfall in the country. Skymet had said that the northern and central regions of the country are most likely to receive less rain.

If the rains remain normal, then food grain production in the country is also expected to remain normal. That is, it can provide relief from inflation. Farmers in the country usually start sowing summer crops from June 1. This is the time when monsoon rains reach India. The sowing of the crop continues till the beginning of August.

What is normal rain?

The Indian Meteorological Department i.e. IMD said that 96% of the Long Period Average (LPA) could rain. If the rainfall is between 90-95% of the LPA then it is said to be below normal. If the LPA is 96%-104% then it is called normal rainfall.

If the LPA is between 104% and 110%, it is said to be above normal rainfall. More than 110% is called excess rainfall and less than 90% is called drought.

Next update of monsoon will come in end of May

IMD told that the next update of monsoon will come in the last week of May. On the other hand, on the effect of El-Nino, said that this year the effect of El-Nino can be seen in the second half of the monsoon season.

The Meteorological Department said that the condition of El-Nino will definitely be formed, but it will not be very strong, but moderate. So no need to worry about it. The year there is an El Nino, it is not necessary that the monsoon is bad that year. 40% of past El Niño years have had normal or above-normal rainfall.

What are ‘La Nina’ and ‘El Nino’ that affect rainfall?

In La Nina, the sea water cools faster. La Nina affects the weather around the world. According to meteorologists, it causes clouds in the sky and rains. More or less rain, cold and heat in India depends on La Nina only. Due to La Nina in India, there is a possibility of more cold and rain.

Like La Nina, El Nino also affects the weather around the world. In this, the sea temperature increases by 3 to 4 degrees. Its effect happens twice in 10 years. Due to this effect, there is less rain in the area of high rainfall and more rain in the area of low rainfall. Monsoons are often weak due to El Nino in India, which leads to drought conditions.

Good rain is necessary for the economy

▪️The southwest monsoon receives 70% of the annual rainfall in the country. Even now 70% to 80% farmers in our country depend on rain water for irrigation. In such a situation, their production completely depends on the good or bad monsoon. Inflation also increases when there is a bad monsoon.

▪️The share of the agriculture sector in the Indian economy is close to 20%. At the same time, the agriculture sector provides employment to half of the population of our country. Good rains mean that the income of half the population can be good before the festive season. Due to which their spending capacity will also increase.
