Same-sex marriage is forbidden in Islam, Muslim organization reaches Supreme Court

Homosexuality and same-sex marriage is forbidden in Islam. In Islam, only relationships between a man and a woman are legal. Marriage in India is also linked to religion and therefore religious aspects should also be considered in the case. The Telangana Markazi Shia Ulema Council has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The council has been asked to reject petitions seeking the recognition of same-sex marriage. Apart from the Ulema Council, other Muslim organizations are also against the legalization of same-sex marriage.

The Ulema Council says that keeping in view the truth that marriages in Indian society are rooted in religion, questions of legal validity of same-sex marriage should also be looked at religious restrictions. The council also cited research reports that show children raised by heterosexual parents are behind in many ways compared to children raised by heterosexual parents.

The concept of gay marriages Western

The petition cites the report ‘How Different Are the Adult Children of Parents Who Have Same-Sex Relationships?’ published by Dr Mark Regnarus. The report was published in 2012 by the New Family Structures Study in Social Science Research. The Ulema Council in its petition said that the concept of same-sex marriages is Western and not suitable for the social fabric of India.

Other religions including Islam also oppose homosexuality

The petition states that laws in the West or globally do not consider religious aspects and religion is largely no longer a source of law. Other than that, if you look at the global level, religion is not very important in people’s lives. The Ulema Council said religion plays an important role in shaping social norms and family relationships as well as personal laws in India. Not only Islam, but also the mainstream religions prevalent in India do not accept and oppose it.
