These facts have come to the fore in the four-day survey and studies of renowned institutes of the country and foreign experts. It has been found in the study that there is movement on the hill every moment. In such a situation, the problem of landslides will remain on the hill during rains.

Experts believe that in future, the landslide of Balinala can become a big threat to the existence of the city. That’s why early treatment of the hill is very important. Climate Resilience Sustainable Development for Nainital Project is being implemented with ADB funding. In which a master plan is to be prepared after studying Nainital’s future needs, problems and solutions. So that the challenges coming to the city after 20 years can be dealt with.

For four days, experts from the country and abroad, after studies, have described the landslide happening in Balinala as the most sensitive issue. The team members told that Balinala is not a regional but a national issue, which has a direct connection with the existence of Nainital. Many expert studies have been done on many levels of the hill. But every time new facts are coming out in the studies. These facts are going to increase the concern of the people of the city.

The hill was scanned every half an hour for two days

In the project, the business development team studied Balinala hill by installing lidar scanner in Alukhet area. Team expert Haider Ali said that for two days the hill was scanned every half an hour by the scanner. In which it was revealed that there is movement in the hill every moment. Soil and dust particles are falling from the hill without rain. If rain water leaks from the hill, it can become a big danger in future. In such a situation, timely management is very important.

Management of water leakage from the hill is necessary

Along with other areas of the city, experts from Risk Management Solutions India and Netherlands studied water quality, underground water and other aspects in Balinala hill. Expert Shafiq told that a huge amount of water is leaking from the hill, which appears to be underground water. The hill is getting weak due to continuous water seepage, whose timely management is very important.

Project could not get financial approval but budget

The government does not seem serious about the most sensitive issue of the city. Every year there is a landslide on the hill. For whose treatment many surveys and studies have been done. But till now the budget could not be found to start the treatment.

After about one and a half years of studies, in December last year, the DPR prepared by the Gents to Consultant Company was placed before the Chief Secretary after the High Power Committee. Giving financial approval to the project worth Rs 208 crore, the Chief Secretary directed to start the work soon. But even after passing of four months, the budget has not been released.
