DC vs SRH: Why was Akshar Patel sent at number 7? David Warner told the big reason
Delhi Capitals suffered a 9-run defeat at the hands of Sun Risers in their eighth match. In the match played at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored a big score of 197 runs. Chasing this, the Capitals team could only manage 188 runs. Phil Salt scored 59, Mitchell Marsh scored 63, but they could not win the team. At the same time, Akshar Patel also played a brilliant inning of 29 runs in the lower order. Although the fans did not understand the decision to send Akshar Patel at number 7 in such a situation because he is in blazing form these days. If he had come up, he would have got more balls to play and maybe he could have won the team. David Warner gave a big statement after the match and explained the reason for this decision.
Difficult to lose wicket in the middle
Warner said – It is disappointing to lose by 9 runs. It was a very good wicket. I think Mitch Marsh bowled brilliantly in the middle overs and he was our best bowler. At the end of the day when you give good starts to two guys, it is important that we try to capitalize on one of them and go for a big score. If we would have done that, it would have been a match finish, but when you lose wickets in the middle and no partnership emerges, it becomes very difficult.
The left-handed batsman could have played the spinners better
On Akshar Patel’s batting position, Warner said- He is in good touch and form, but it is important for us to have a left-handed batsman up and one down the order. We knew their spinners could be played better by left-handers, but we only had myself and Akshar. We had two guys who could play big innings and Akshar would have grabbed it at the back end.
Senior players have to take responsibility
Warner said- It can be difficult, but we have similar challenges. We just have to create momentum in the middle order with the bat. We need one or two players to get 80+ score and win the game. We are losing a lot of wickets throughout the middle order and that is where we are suffering a bit. Our senior players have to take responsibility. One of us has to get the big total.
