Malaysia Masters Badminton: PV Sindhu in semi-finals of Malaysia Masters, Kidambi Srikanth out
India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu has made it to the semi-finals of the Malaysia Masters. On Thursday, she defeated Yi Man Hong of China. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu defeated lower-ranked Hong in three games 21-16, 13-21, 22-20 in the quarter-final encounter. The match lasted for one hour and 14 minutes. Last year also Sindhu had defeated this Chinese player in the same tournament. In this way, Sindhu avenged her loss to Yi Man in the round of 32 of the All India Open earlier this year.
Sindhu will take on world number nine and seventh seed Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia in the semi-finals on Saturday. In the quarter-finals, Tunjung defeated second seed Yi He Wang of China 21-18, 22-20.
Tunjung has been in excellent form in this tournament. In the Madrid Spain Masters held in April last year, she defeated PV Sindhu in straight games. However, both have played eight matches so far with Sindhu leading the way by defeating Tunjung seven times.
Kidambi Srikanth suffered a defeat in the men’s singles quarter-final. With this he is out of the tournament. He was defeated 21-16,16-21 and 11-21 by Indonesian shuttler Christian Adinata. This match lasted for 57 minutes. India’s HS Prannoy will take on Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the Men’s Singles quarterfinals today.
