Manipur violence: Kuki and other tribes protest at Jantar Mantar, seek Centre’s intervention
Agency. Hundreds of women belonging to the Hamar, Kuki, Mizo and Zomi tribes gathered at Jantar Mantar on Monday to protest against the violence in Manipur, demanding appropriate intervention from the central government to end the tension performed in Manipur.
The protesters gathered at the protest site carrying posters and the national flag and raised slogans demanding justice. He continued to perform even in the pouring rain. A protester said from the dais, when I woke up this morning, our Chief Minister has said that Kukis are terrorists. We have been made homeless in our own house. Amidst chants of ‘Hum Bhartiya Hai’ from the crowd, another protester said that we are Indians and our forefathers were freedom fighters. We are not illegal immigrants. Since the violence, about 1.40 columns of Army and Assam Rifles, comprising more than 10,000 personnel, had to be deployed in the state besides paramilitary forces.
