Wrestlers Protest: Wrestlers got the support of Kapil Dev’s team that won the 1983 World Cup, issued a special appeal
Members of the 1983 World Cup winning Indian cricket team extended support to the wrestlers on Friday. He requested the wrestlers not to take any decision in haste and hoped that their issues would be heard and resolved. In a joint statement, the 1983 World Cup-winning team said they were deeply distressed to see photographs of the manhandling of champion wrestlers. But he is hopeful that the law will take its course.
Wrestlers removed from Jantar Mantar
Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia went to Haridwar on May 30 to demand the arrest of outgoing Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on charges of alleged sexual harassment but did not immerse the medals in the Ganges. On May 28, the Delhi Police detained protesting wrestlers on charges of disturbing law and order when they were marching towards the new Parliament without permission. The police also removed their belongings from Jantar Mantar and said that the wrestlers would no longer be allowed to return to protest there.

Earlier former cricketers like Anil Kumble, Robin Uthappa and Irfan Pathan also supported the wrestlers. Active cricketers have not yet given any statement on this. Olympic gold medalist in javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and shooter Abhinav Bindra, who won India’s first medal in the individual event of the Olympics, also expressed their displeasure that wrestlers had to hit the streets for justice.
