‘There were flaws, that’s why the bridge is being demolished’, Nitish government’s big claim on bridge collapse in Bihar

A part of the bridge (Bhagalpur Bridge Collapse) being built at a cost of 1700 crores in Bhagalpur, Bihar suddenly collapsed on Sunday evening. After which the political temperature started rising. BJP targeted the Nitish Kumar government. This bridge was being built on the river Ganga. No casualty has been reported in the collapse of the Aguwani-Sultanganj Bridge, which connects Bhagalpur to Khagaria district. After the video of this incident in Khagaria surfaced, the opposition attacked the government. After this, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and Additional Chief Secretary of Road Construction Department Pratyay Amrit held a press conference in a hurry. In this, he told that there were flaws in the bridge, that is why it was being demolished.

Tejashwi gave clarification on the whole matter
Tejashwi Yadav said that let me remind you that on April 30 last year also a part of this bridge had collapsed. Next, we approached IIT-Roorkee, known for its expertise in construction matters, to conduct a study. Its final report is yet to come. However, experts who have studied its structure inform us that it has serious flaws.

Action will be taken on the company making the bridge?
Pratyay Amrit further said that after the final report comes, the state government will blacklist the company that was given the contract for the project. Along with this, action will also be taken to register an FIR. Amrit also said that soon after getting the news of the incident, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called him and sought a detailed report on the accident. The estimated cost of the project is said to be Rs 1,700 crore.

BJP surrounds Nitish government
Meanwhile, the opposition BJP has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in this matter. Bihar BJP president Samrat Chowdhary said the incident shows that “corruption is rampant” under the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government. He said, “substandard material was used in the construction of the bridge. The Chief Minister is not at all concerned about the development of Bihar… He is busy with his tour. He should resign from his post after this incident.” BJP leader and former Bhagalpur MP Syed Shahnawaz Hussain demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident, blaming “corruption” for the incident.
