Uttarakhand: Serious people should be included in Ganga’s cleanliness campaign, CS said – District Magistrates who do good work will be honored

Chief Secretary Dr. S.S. A meeting of the State Ganga Committee was held at the secretariat on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Sandhu. The Chief Secretary instructed to form stretch-wise committees under Ganga. He said that local intellectuals and serious people for the cleanliness of Ganga should be included in these committees to create a common man’s campaign. Said that this would enable continuous monitoring. He also identified the District Magistrates for doing good work and honored them.

The Chief Secretary instructed to ensure maximum participation of common people in the ‘Spring and River Rejuvenation Board’ announced by the Chief Minister. He said that STPs should be built away from the rivers to use the water for agricultural purposes so that the contaminated water does not go directly into the Ganga. For this, instead of setting up a big plant at one place, small plants should be set up at different places. He also directed to conduct annual social audit of STP. Said that instead of giving work to any one agency for social audit, various agencies should be involved in it.

Instructing to focus on dense afforestation, the Chief Secretary said that more and more people should be involved in promoting organic farming on the banks of rivers. He said that in the initial years it gives less production but after 2-3 years the production starts increasing and this farming becomes profitable soon after getting good price. He said that a scheme can be implemented to support the farmers for the initial 2-3 years.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretary Arvind Singh Hyanki, Sachin Kurve, Udayraj, Additional Secretary Urban Development Navneet Pandey and other officers and representatives of other institutions related to the State Ganga Committee were present through video conferencing from the districts.
