Bike taxis will not run in Delhi for the time being, SC stays Delhi High Court’s interim order
At present, bike taxis will not ply in Delhi. Cab aggregator companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido have got a jolt from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has stayed the interim order of the Delhi High Court. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had allowed the cab aggregator companies to continue the bike service while staying the decision of the Delhi Government.
In February 2023, the Delhi government banned the bike service of cab aggregator companies like Ola-Uber and Rapido. The Supreme Court directed the Delhi High Court to expedite the hearing in the matter. The Supreme Court allowed the parties to file a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding an early hearing.
The High Court had issued notice to the Delhi government on May 26 on a plea by Rapido challenging the law prohibiting registration of two-wheelers as transport vehicles. The High Court had directed that no coercive action should be taken against the bike-taxi operator until the policy is notified. Listing the petition for August 22, the High Court said, “Counsel for the petitioners (Rapido) submitted that the process of consultation on the policy is on.”
