Supreme Court refused to hear soon on the demand to ban Uttarkashi Mahapanchayat, know what it said?

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court demanding a ban on the mahapanchayat to be held on June 15 in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. At present, the petitioner has not got any relief from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court refused to hear the matter soon. The Supreme Court told the petitioner that according to the law, this is an administrative matter, you can approach the High Court regarding this.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court remarked that law and order is a matter of the state government. Why have you come to the Supreme Court? You should go to the High Court first. You go to the High Court.

The court asked the petitioner why you do not trust the administration? Why do you think the administration will not take any action on this? Let us tell you that Professor Apoorvanand and Ashok Vajpayee of Delhi University had sent a letter to CJI Justice DY Chandrachud demanding a ban on the mahapanchayat.

What is said in the petition?

This petition states, “Such incidents are a curse for the society and the law and cannot be supported in a parliamentary democracy. Such things threaten the secular fabric that binds the country together… If the mahapanchayat is allowed to happen, it could lead to communal tension in the state. In such a situation, there is an urgent need for the intervention of the court to protect the life and property of those against whom the mahapanchayat is to be held.”

Demand to give instructions to the state government

It has been demanded in the petition that the court should direct that the state government should take necessary steps for the safety of those people of Uttarkashi, who are in danger at this time. Also, the government should give adequate compensation to those people who have been forced to leave their shops and homes.

Madani wrote a letter to Amit Shah

In this matter, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani has also written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami requesting them to take strict action. Madani has expressed deep concern over the open threat of eviction of the Muslim community in Uttarkashi.

What is the whole matter?

This whole case pertains to Purola Nagar Panchayat of Uttarkashi district, where two youths were accused of seducing a minor Hindu girl. One of them is a Muslim and the other a Hindu. Some local youths stopped both those youths and the girl, but after this a protest against the Muslim community started in Purola, which is still going on. The protesters have put up posters on the shops of Muslim shopkeepers, threatening to vacate the shops before the mahapanchayat to be held on June 15. There is also news of migration of some Muslim shopkeepers.
