Siddaramaiah government repeals conversion law in Karnataka, RSS founder Hedgewar’s biography removed from school syllabus

The Karnataka cabinet has taken several important decisions on Thursday. In this, the decision to withdraw the anti-conversion law brought by the BJP government was announced. It was also decided that now the preamble of the constitution will be read along with prayer in schools and colleges. This information was given by Minister HK Patil. Patil said that the cabinet has decided this in the meeting. The government is also going to discuss the syllabus.
The governor gave approval on May 17, 2022
The anti-conversion law was brought in by the previous BJP government to prevent mass conversions through allurement or coercion, fraud. It was passed in the Karnataka Assembly in December 2021. The ordinance was approved by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on May 17, 2022. The bill was strongly opposed by the Congress MLAs as well as the leaders of the Christian community. Now the Congress government has announced the repeal of the anti-conversion law.
Hedgewar’s chapter will be removed
State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil said the cabinet has decided to remove the chapters on KB Hedgewar (one of the founders of BJP’s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) from school history books. This chapter was added last year.
Also, all the changes made in the school curriculum by the BJP government have been reversed. Patil told reporters after the meeting that the cabinet has also decided to make it mandatory to read the Preamble of the Constitution along with hymns in schools and colleges. The cabinet has also decided to bring a new law on Agriculture Markets (APMC).
Former Education Minister retaliated
Former Education Minister BC Nagesh has hit back at the Siddaramaiah government. He said that they (Congress) want votes of Muslims, Siddaramaiah’s government is against Hindus. They want to attract minority votes and want to politicize everything.
