Umesh Nishad, a resident of Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh, was lodged in a Pakistani jail for almost 27 months. After years, due to the hard efforts of the Government of India, Umesh has returned to his homeland. Umesh had gone to Gujarat in search of employment, where he used to do the work of catching fish from the sea. About two years ago, due to some fault in the boat while fishing, the boat drifted to the border of Pakistan, where Pak Navy personnel caught 6 fishermen including Umesh.
Reached Pakistan floating in a boat
Umesh, a resident of Maharajganj district, used to work as a fisherman in Gujarat. As usual, he had gone fishing, but suddenly his boat’s leash broke in the sea. Due to breaking of the leash, the boat drifted and reached the Pakistani border. Pak Navy personnel had caught 6 fishermen in the boat including Umesh. Since then, continuous efforts were being made to free all the fishermen from Pakistani jails. On June 3, Pakistani soldiers handed over 200 fishermen to the BSF at the Wagah border. In which Umesh also returned to his home.
Return due to the Government of India-
Umesh Nishad told that all the people were taken into police custody and interrogated and then sent to Malir Jail. Umesh said that he was not sure that he would ever reach the family, he always lived in the shadow of fear in jail. Neither had the confidence to eat nor to live. Always remembered the family. Umesh’s family appreciated the efforts of the Government of India and also congratulated the Prime Minister.
