Tennis: Alcarez will face Sebastian Korda for the first time in the semi-finals of the grasscourt tournament
Top seed Carlos Alcarez stormed past former champion Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of an ATP tournament for the first time on grass at the Queen’s Club Tennis Championships. It was Alcarez’s eighth win in eight matches against 2014 champion Dimitrov, who made it to the tournament through qualifying. He will face Sebastian Korda in the semi-finals.
Korda defeated Britain’s Cameron Nouri 6-4, 7-6. Like Alcarez, he also reached his first grass-court semi-final in an ATP tournament. Second seed Holger Rune will face seventh seed Alex de Minaur of Australia in the other semi-final on Saturday.
Rouen beat Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 7-5 while De Minaur beat unseeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Nouri’s exit means that for the first time in 11 years, no British player in singles or doubles has survived the final week.
Kjiskova in the semi-finals of the Birmingham tournament
Top seed Barbora Krejcikova stormed into the semi-finals of the WTA grasscourt tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Linda Fruhvartova of the Czech Republic in Birmingham. World number 12 Krejcikova has reached the semi-finals of this grasscourt tournament for the first time. Krejcikova will now face China’s Zhu Lin. Lin defeated Rebecca Marino 4–6, 6–3, 6–2.
