Pakistan: Sikh man shot dead by unidentified gunmen, suspect arrested

Peshawar, A Sikh man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan’s Peshawar city, in what is being said to be a case of alleged targeted killing.

Police arrested some suspects in this connection on Sunday.

Police said that a Sikh man named Manmohan Singh (35) was shot dead by some armed men when he was going somewhere from Rashid Garhi in the suburbs of Peshawar. The incident took place near Guldara Chowk, Kashal under Yakka Toot police station area.

This is the latest case of targeted attacks against minority communities in Pakistan.

Police said Singh was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Peshawar police chief Ashfaq Anwar told reporters that some suspects have been arrested in connection with Singh’s murder. Singh was a ‘Hakeem’ (Unani medicine practitioner) by profession.

The police chief said the police were close to arresting the main accused involved in the murder.

This is the second incident of attack on a Sikh person in Yakka Toot area in the last 48 hours. A Sikh man was injured in the firing on Friday. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) is probing the attack on Sikh businessman Trilok Singh.

Police believe that the real reason behind the attack on two Sikh persons in Peshawar within 48 hours will be known only after a thorough investigation.
