Vigilance raids government officer’s house in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, then wife throws cartons full of notes on neighbor’s terrace, lakhs of rupees recovered

The Vigilance Wing of the Odisha Police raided several locations of a government official. During this, more than three crore rupees cash was recovered. Officials said that information was being received in this regard, after which this action was taken. According to the information, the officials had received a complaint in this matter, on which the vigilance wing of the police raided the residence of Odisha Administrative Officer (OAS) Prashant Kumar Raut, posted as Additional Sub Collector in Nabarangpur district. The team reached Bhubaneswar, Nabarangpur and other places during this period. A huge amount of cash has been recovered during the raid. Officials said that during the raid, the wife of the accused officer threw six cartons full of cash on the terrace of her neighbors in Kanan Vihar and asked them to hide them. The police team recovered the cartons from the roofs of the neighbors. During this, many machines were called to count the cash.

90 lakh cash including jewelery recovered from a hideout

Officials said that along with gold ornaments, Rs 89.5 lakh cash was recovered from Prashant Kumar Raut’s residence in Nabarangpur. At present the raid is going on. About nine teams of the department are engaged in the search. Raut was arrested in 2018 for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a panchayat executive officer, when he was working as BDO in Sundergarh district.

In a statement issued by the Vigilance Wing, it has been said that this is the second biggest cash recovery from the house of a government official in the state. Earlier in April 2022, Rs 3.41 crore cash was recovered by raiding Kartikeshwar Raul, who was posted as Assistant Engineer in Minor Irrigation Division in Ganjam district.
