Earthquake: Strong tremors of earthquake in Tonga, measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale; no casualties reported

Earthquake tremors were felt on June 2 (Sunday) in Tonga, an island country situated in the southern part of the Pacific Ocean. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred 134 km northwest of Niuafu, Tonga.

No reports of casualties or material damage

The earthquake occurred at 10:27:43 (UTC) at a depth of 225.0 km. According to the USGS, its center was located at Latitude 17.853°W and Longitude 174.937°W.

However, it is a matter of relief that there is no report of any casualty or material damage so far.

On June 16, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Tonga.

At the same time, earlier on June 16 (Friday) tremors of 7.2 magnitude earthquake were felt in Tonga. The epicenter was located approximately 280 km (174 mi) southwest of Tonga at a depth of 167.4 km (104 mi).
