Madhya Pradesh: “Pravesh Shukla” arrested for urinating on youth, BJP worker telling Congress accused, BJP denied

In Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district (Sidhi viral video), the accused of urinating on a tribal youth was arrested late on Tuesday night. A video of a drunken accused urinating on the face of a tribal man in Sidhi district is going viral on social media since Tuesday. After the incident came to the fore, the Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chouhan took cognizance of this issue. In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sidhi, Anjulata Patle said that the accused is being interrogated and further legal action will be taken soon. The opposition Congress claimed that the accused is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While the ruling party BJP has denied this allegation.

An official of the Chief Minister’s Office said on Tuesday that the accused has been identified as Pravesh Shukla. A case has been registered against him under sections 294 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He informed that action has been initiated against the stringent National Security Act.

The police had registered a case in this regard after a video of a man urinating on a tribal youth went public. Additional Superintendent of Police Anjulata Patle said that on the basis of the evidence received, the accused was arrested at around 2 am on Tuesday and is being interrogated. He said that strict NSA action has also been initiated against the accused.

The officer said that we were looking for him and policemen from different police stations around his village were on alert. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had tweeted on Tuesday evening, “A video from Sidhi district has come to my notice… I have directed the administration to arrest the guilty and invoke the National Security Act.”

Accused of being associated with BJP

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath said in a statement that a video of the atrocity of (a person) urinating on a tribal youth from Sidhi district of the state has come to the fore. He said that there is no place in a civilized society for such heinous act with the youth of the tribal society. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath also said that the culprit is said to be associated with the BJP. He said that Madhya Pradesh is already at the first place in terms of atrocities on tribals.

Kamal Nath said that this incident has brought shame to the entire Madhya Pradesh. The guilty person should be punished severely and the atrocities on tribals in Madhya Pradesh should stop. However, state BJP media in-charge Ashish Aggarwal said that the accused has no connection with the party. Agarwal said that BJP will always oppose every heinous act against the tribal community and Madhya Pradesh BJP demands strictest action against this person.

Both the BJP and the Congress are trying to woo the tribal community in the state ahead of the assembly elections due later this year. Some social media posts claimed that the accused Pravesh Shukla is the representative of BJP MLA Kedarnath Shukla from Sidhi. Although Shukla has denied this. He said, “The criminal is neither my representative nor associate nor is he associated with the BJP. I demand strict action against the culprit.”

On the viral video, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that the accused has been arrested. He is in the police station. Legal action has started. NSA will be imposed on him.
