Manipur Violence: Four more people including police commando killed in violence-hit Manipur, teenager shot dead
The ongoing violence in Manipur is not taking the name of stopping. The death toll in violence is continuously increasing. Four people, including a Manipur police commando and a juvenile, were killed in a clash between two groups in Kangwai area of Bishnupur district on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, officials said.
Firing took place despite the buffer zone of the security forces
He said that a buffer zone was created by the security forces to prevent both the communities from resorting to violence. However, despite this, there was firing in the area during the night. He further said that last night a mob of many people came down from the hill and tried to burn down some villages. The mob first gathered outside the village but did not bow down to requests from the locals to go back. However, the security forces responded to the violence during this time and prevented any house from being set on fire.
Three people died in firing
He said people from both sides fired at each other in Kangwai, Songdo and Awang Lekhai, in which three people from both sides were killed and injured. Officials said intermittent firing was going on in several areas. He said that during this, a commando of Manipur Police got injured late on Friday evening, who later succumbed to his injuries. He said that a teenager was murdered in Faubakchao area.
More than 120 people have died so far
It may be noted that since the outbreak of caste violence in the state on May 3, more than 120 people have died while more than 3000 people have been injured. Around 40,000 central security personnel, besides the Manipur Police, have been deployed to control the violence and restore normalcy in the state.
Very low attendance of children in schools
Meanwhile, despite schools in Manipur re-opening on Wednesday after two months, the attendance of children is still very low. Worried about the safety of their children, parents are hesitating to send them to school. On the other hand, ten opposition parties including Congress, AAP, Left have held a peace meeting here after 65 days of violence. These people have thanked Rahul Gandhi for his two-day visit to Manipur.
